THOMAS, Oil on canvas

Oil on canvas
My latest portrait.

EXCITED and NOT SO EXCITED!

I have received this message on my website....
So nice to have my work acknowledged but... I would prefer to be paid than to pay them.

I am pretty sure this mail is genuine. A few years ago I received a similar one from Vogue.

However, with all the scams we encounter on the web, I still would be extremely careful if I had wanted to proceed with this offer.

As you have guessed... Thank you but No thank you!

Hi Beatrice,

I hope this finds you well and you've had a great start to the week! I really love your art portfolio.

I am getting in touch regarding an exciting art advertorial showcase I am working on within House & Garden magazine for our Premium Winter/New Year Campaign including our much sought after January, February and March issues. Entitled ‘The Art Edit’, this advertorial will focus on unique and captivating artwork to inspire our readers. House & Garden combines the best houses and gardens from around the world with an eclectic mix of features that influence the way we live today. It is an invaluable sourcebook of what’s new in interiors and what no interior design project should be without! I came across your artwork online and I think that it would hugely appeal to our 451,000 affluent readers, who look to House & Garden for unique masterpieces to add a touch of novelty to their homes.

After discovering your fantastic website, I would love to have a chat about your artwork. Could we perhaps schedule a call to discuss this further? Please do let me know a convenient time or, if it is easier, I can send across further information via email, including rates and deadlines. With space available from as little as £295+VAT per issue, it is such a fantastic time to be involved with House & Garden!

So you are aware, space is extremely limited within this campaign and we are expecting it to fill within the next few days, however, we do have longer to work on artwork together.

I look forward to hearing from you!

AUTUMN EVENING IN VENICE... Romantic enough!!!

This is at last the commission that has taken so many months to paint!

My excuse... it is in Oil and the drying time is killing me!

When I feel so inspired and cannot carry on as everything has to dry before starting again on the painting... it sends me into serious frustration!!!

It is a good size painting 18" x 24"
On Linen.

So here is my latest and last commission.

So what is going on???

Life of an artist is never boring, this is if there is inspiration!

I have heard a few artists saying they were in a hole. It means for some reason, they do not find inspiration.
Yes it happens!

My advise would be to forget about the studio.
Go out, visit exhibitions.

There is nothing like visiting and viewing the work of other artists.

It does not mean, copying what they are doing!!!

It can give us ideas. The idea of one artist can trigger another idea in another artist.

After being refreshed, come back to the studio, clean it, get ready for action and work on a new masterpiece :D

Well, these last few days, I have been busy. I have completed another watercolour.
I also have almost finished my commission that I will post pretty soon. (a canvas)

So here is the watercolour

"Strawberries and Roses"
on Arches paper with Winsor Newton  and Sennelier paint.

I had started this painting a while ago.
I was not too sure where I was going with it, until I bought a set of Sennelier paint.
I fell in love with these watercolours.
I decided to rework the painting with the Sennelier paint.
It was a joy.
They are vibrant. They are made with honey.
Delicious!

Quantum Quantum Bitcoin

Yes and now we have to put up with scammers leaving multiple messages on websites!

One is Quantum Quantum, telling me to buy Bitcoin!

Do I ...Blip care about their Bitcoins.
I got better things to do!

Another today is joining the tune, telling me I have missed the opportunity to
become a millionaire.

Nice joke!
I do not want to be a millionaire, thank you.
I love a simple life with my paint brushes.
I do not need a million to live happily!

So those morons come From Ukraine.
One is based in Kiev, the other in Zaporizhia.

I got their IP addresses...

PRINCESS PARADE HYTHE, when councillors vote YES

Today many of us in Hythe are mourning the decision taken by some councillors to pass the planning permission on Princess Parade.

These councillors are Judas!
Judas to the town they represent and suppose to love and work for.
Judas to the many people of Hythe who opposed the destruction of the green land and we were in great number.
Judas to the Wildlife that has been living on the land and canal for generations. It is going to be obliterated. They have no qualm about it.
They are no better than those who kill Elephants to sell their tusks.

It is a tragedy! A monstrous error of judgement.

150 houses to be built right on the seafront, almost on the water edge and a promise of a Leisure Centre that was the carrot to get the backing of the population.

A few years ago, the government  was asking for low land not to be built on, due to flooding risk.
Oh! have we forgotten all about it?

Anything goes when some want money!

Sandgate Parish Council, Historic England and Kent Wildlife Trust were also strongly opposed.
But councillors want it...

The leisure centre:
It has been whispered that 150 houses need to be built to be able to have the money to build the Leisure Centre.
But most importantly, it was mentioned that once the houses will be built, (this is the real project) People of Hythe will be told the Leisure Centre cannot be built on the place.

I am no geologist, no architect, no councillor, I am just like the highest number of the population an ordinary soul.

But the one thing I do believe is, the land that is going to be destroyed will be cursed.
You do not destroy an extraordinary wildlife without consequences.
You do not open a landfill that contains asbestos, hospital waste, dead carcasses and the rubbish of Hythe for years without risking an explosion of illnesses irising from all the detritus.

You do not build houses facing the sea on low land, without having flooding in years to come.
You do not kid yourself that selling those houses will not come with the risk of putting people’s lives in danger.
Hurricanes have happened along the coast and in Hythe. What will happen to these properties and most importantly their inhabitants?

We are going to have to witness the destruction of a land where I have seen so many birds feeding from the seeds of the wild plants. Flocks of long tail tits, green and gold finches. The swallows that arrive in the Spring having crossed the Channel and have a rest on Princess Parade before carrying on their journey. The canal where swans, moorhens, herons live happily.
The calm beauty of the water, the bird songs… What do councillors know about it? Have they got a soul?

They probably sleep well at night thinking they have done their duty! I would not like to be in their skin! Odious!

The PAYPAL SCAMS

Like most people who have an online presence, I am plagued with unwelcome scam emails!

-I have had all the Banks in the world warning me about my account being hacked and more...
I have been threatened for not opening my emails (scams)

- Now the scam emails have been about my Service Provider. I am asked to change my password, threatened to have my account closed etc...
All of them are scams!

Today, I thought I should warn those who follow me...

I have received this email:

When I checked the email address of the sender, it was not the usual Paypal address.
It was cleverly camouflaged though.
I went to my Paypal account and of course I did not receive a payment.
I did not expect one anyway.

***
My advice to you all is

When you receive a similar email, DO NOT CLICK on the LINKS!
They either contains viruses or they are going to find out your Password etc...

Instead:
GO TO YOUR account and check all is alright.
Change your Password regularly.

Never be tempted to send these morons one of your angry email...
They will find the way to steal your email address..

So be vigilant!

FACEBOOK, NUDITY and RUBENS

Facebook is policing, searching for offensive postings.

It is my belief they should concentrate more on those who sign to commit scams and other nasty acts.

I am entirely with Facebook and other social media to corner and eliminate all hard porn that could damage children. Parents have enough worries about their children being online without having to be concerned about sex pages.

What makes my blood boil is when accomplished artists are being targeted for having posted one of their nudes!

I have had my account blocked for 3 days after posting the nude of one of my friend artists
Yvonne Melchers and Alan Stevens

You can find their works on Grandmasters of Fine Art Exhibition

I was also told by FB, next time they will delete my account.
The funny side of the story is on my return to FB, I had a message showing me:

Happy Friendship Anniversary with Yvonne Melchers
There was a picture of Yvonne in front of her nude!!!

Painting by artist Yvonne Melchers, banned by Facebook.

Do they know what they are doing?

I think this time they have gone a bit too far.

From the TELEGRAPH

"The museums, led by the Flemish Tourist Board, claim the social media giant's strict advertising rules have made it impossible to promote one of Flanders’ greatest artists."
...
"“Indecent. That is the word used to describe the breasts, buttocks and cherubs of Peter Paul Rubens. Not by us but by you,” the open letter reads "Even though we secretly have to laugh about it, your cultural censorship is making life rather difficult for us".

The Flemish Tourist Board has written to the founder of Facebook.
Hopefully they will have a bit more weight Than the rest of us.

Pease read the article in the Telegraph, you will have a good laugh at the expense of Facebook.
They are attacking the grand Rubens. Where will it stop.

So who are those policing FB? Ignorants? bigots? Who is behind such decisions?

If there is a big brain, reading this posting, please can you start a site similar to FACEBOOK, for artists only!! and of course their followers.

Imagine if all artists were going away from Facebook, it would create a huge void there!
They would loose money too.

A corner of Staithes

Watercolour of this charming part of the harbour that has been painted by so many artists.

I have been fascinated by this place, knowing I probably will never have the chance to go there.
I was lucky enough to have great friends.
Artist Alan Stevens who was visiting the exhibition of Artist Sue Nichol in Staithes, made some photos and gave me the permission to use this one.

So thank you Alan for the photo and Sue for the inspiration, as through the years you have given to me many glimpses of the place through your magnificent paintings.

Executed on Arches paper with Winsor Newton watercolour paint.
Not for sale. Reserved.

BEWARE scammer leaving post on your website

There is not a week passing by without having to deal with a scam!

These guys think we are stupid.

They try all tricks in the bag but so far have not caught me.

Today I had a message left on my website: http://www.beatricecloakewatercolour.co.uk

I thought you would like to know, it looks like you've misspelled the word "Sargent" on your website. Silly mistakes can ruin your site's credibility. In the past I've used a tool like SpellingScan.com to keep mistakes off my website. -Scott Matthews Sr.

The one mistake made by Mr Matthews was to mention "Sargent".
I know I have a watercolour website but at no time, have I mentioned "Sargent" who was a brilliant watercolorist.

I have made some research. My provider told me he came from Canada.

Other research warns the site is infected with viruses... while some other points out the present the site is genuine and safe.

So shall we say, may be he is not a scammer but a Spammer.

In other words: A pain!!!

Warning to Artists, their websites and domain names

This posting is about my own experience through now nearly 15 years on the internet.

It is what I have learnt.
I would like to be able to pass on other artists the pitfall we face when we try to build our first website.

If you have never tried to build a website but know a bit about computing and internet and blogging, I am sure you are capable of building a website.

My first advice will be to do good research about where you are going to build your site from.
There are so many site builders who can tempt you!

I have had TWO bad experiences.
I ran away from one (who advertise heavily) who had taken my money, ran my site for two years and all of a sudden, my site vanished.
Very bad when I had the luck to have my work featured in a magazine!!! with NO functioning site.

After three weeks of argument over the phone where I was taken to the far east and going nowhere,
I finally got them on Facebook.
The bad publicity got me my money back.
I heard that many of their customers where in the same predicament and one had to close their online business as they had lost so much money.

The second one was ok, but trying to build a site was a total nightmare (this one advertise heavily too)

I tried one who is reputed for artists websites. I found it extremely difficult to do anything with.
I have warned friends about it but they got tempted and regretted it.

I fell back on Weebly. I would not go anywhere else.
Good choice of templates - easy site to build - aftercare customer service excellent
and to top it all, you can build your site Free.
You pay if you take a Domain name.

I would advise you to try to build a FREE site and take a domain name if you are happy with it.

AH!!!! Now coming to DOMAIN NAME.

My first domain name, Beatricecloake.com was stolen.
HOW? If your server does not inform you that your payment has to be renewed, your domain name go online, offered to be bought.

Some morons, love to speculate with other people domain's names.
If a domain has received many hits, they buy the domain for their own business.

When mine was stolen, the first owner was in Japan, selling Hair remover :D !!!
I caught him, exhibiting on his first page my own CV.

It was not difficult to find his ware about. I got in touch with him. He took down my CV.

Their purpose is to catch people searching for the name of an artist and arriving on their sites.

Later, he abandoned the domain name who was taken by other shoddy characters who contacted me and offered the domain at an exhibiting price.

My domain name came back to me thanks to WEEBLY and at a reasonable price.
So beatricecloake.com is all mine once more!

So, artists, when you build your first website, search for a very good server, take your time. It might take you one week, two weeks, ask friends, other artists etc...

As for the Domain name....
If you are example Joe Smith, you might have more than one Joe Smith in UK or in the world.
I would advise you to take the domain name of Joesmithart of Joesmithfineart.com or co.uk etc....

Another way is to have a domain name without your name. If you no longer use it, nobody could use the domain name and have people coming for you on their site.

I know of artists who for example have a domain name such as:
www.thestoryofKent and display their full name on the Title of their sites.

I have been told, when you forget to renew the payment of your domain name, it takes ONE second for someone else to buy it.
