DINA - Coloured Pencils

At last I have finished DINA.

Because of her tight fur, my love for precision, a new medium...
it has taken over 15 hours...

I do wonder how long other artists spend on a drawing in Coloured pencils.

I have used 95% Derwent Coloured Pencils

Hope you like it!
Thank you to Kira Bodensted for the beautiful photo!

Little watercolours for sale

I very often neglect my small shop on Etsy where I have posted
some of my small watercolours.

I used to sell well there.
I close the shop a couple of years ago but decided to reopen one.
I hate the thought of selling from my website as I have of course encountered

From Etsy payment is safe on both side: Buyers and sellers.

Here is one of them

Being harassed by scammers

I am one of the many artists that are being harassed by scammers.

Like anyone else I receive phone calls from idiots who pose for Windows but now they are getting more personal as they are asking for Beatrice Cloake.

I get countless emails trying to lure me into links that would crash my computer.

Photos of smart guys asking me for marriage... and the list carries on and on

The latest is my email address being targeted.
I received a message by my server warning me my account was blocked due to several attempts to open it with wrong passwords.

Messages are also sent around on my behalf to people.
I was asked by one of them if I was alright! Meaning what?

So to you Scammers:
Frankly I got better things to do!
Get off my back and get real!
Enough nastiness on this Earth.
Concentrate on doing good instead of Bad!

I love challenges and I surely got one with this new medium.
I had always considered coloured pencils work as nothing more than drawing....
this is until I stumbled on incredible work of art and so I decided if
coloured pencils can look so good, I must give it a try.

For years I have missed Pastel painting (I no longer produce due to allergy)

After my two successful attempts (with the owners of the pictures being delighted)
I have started on another cat.
This one is a real challenge as the fur is tight and short.

I know I have a couple of people interested in finding out about drawing and coloured pencils and how to find information. One of the reason I am posting my findings!
I am no expert in this medium but there you go, I will try my best as a beginner.

I have acquired a few pencils:

Derwent and Faber Castell

I have read about Prismacolor  being the very best but they are very expensive!

However... I have found a set of 72 Prismacolor on Amazon for £38.80. reduced from a price of over £200.00

I could not miss this bargain.

I have made a little chart of my 3 different pencils work.

I find Derwent being Soft. I do not seem to be able to apply sharp lines with them
Faber Castell is a sharper pencil. No problem with sharp lines.
Prismacolor is a mixture of both. Soft and again with the possibility to apply sharper lines. There is an added bonus with Prismacolor, they are vibrant. The colour really appears within the first strokes.

(this is my own experiment. It does not mean that it is 100% valid. Other artists might handle them a different way)

Anyway Prismacolor arrived at the right time.

I am now working on my third Pencil work

I am going to try to finish this work with Prismacolor
It has already lifted the colours and the black is really easy to apply and showing beautifully.

To be followed!

I can direct you to a superb Coloured Pencil artist:

Visit her website and you will realise what can be achieved with this medium!

It is not easy for an artist to search and try to find a good easel and I should think more difficult again for a starter!

I have just changed my 25 years old easel. It was giving me a lot of aggravation.
These last few months, I constantly had to checked the level.
The screws had got loose, the three legs had also worn around the screws.

It took me a week to make the right decision.
Well it is right for me, might not be for anyone else.

My main search was for a Studio easel. Something firm, steady, not too high due to the height of the rooms.

I had fallen for one but could not get it as it was far too high. I would have had to make a hole in the ceiling!!!

When I do researches, I go to various sites where people leave comments and reviews.

I finally decided to get Hamilton easel from Winsor Newton.
It has great specifications.
I can tilt the middle section to use it as a support for watercolour or if I want to paint on a flat area.

It is also possible to slide the main component of the easel.
And so, I can paint very small paintings or I can paint being sat down.

It has arrived and I am delighted with it.
I will start working tomorrow!

Oil v Watercolour !!!

I cannot win!!!
A few days ago, I announced, due to my lack of space, I was going to abandon working on canvas and concentrate uniquely on Watercolour as the storage is minimal!

Oil takes a long time to dry.
Acrylic can be painted either on canvas or paper and so is Oil.

With Oil, I still have the problem of drying time.
My studio is small.

I received a couple of emails telling me I could not possibly abandon my canvas.
Surely there is a way to store them.
One of the emails was from a previous buyer of an Oil painting.

So... I have decided to use One room only to dry my works in Oil.
I am back on track.... Once more.

My 25 years old easel is now giving me a lot of aggravation.
I am waiting for a new one.
Watch this space!

WEBSITE and its Problems!

I have lost a lot of my precious time, having to rebuild my website!

I wanted to move it to a new address and it just collapsed.

I have now rebuilt a new one at the address :

Once more a beautiful landscape in my town Hythe, is going to be turned into
The council has the intention to destroy part of our Historical Military Canal to build a road!

The road along the seafront will be closed which means all amenities such as just enjoying the beach as we have done for generations will then vanish.

It is truly disgusting!

I have written an article in the CINQUE PORTS magazine that has been published this month of August.

"Freedom 2021" Acrylic on canvas board I am so happy to have found the mental strength to paint this scenery. I did visit the pl...
